Or someone* is quickly churning out a screenplay where the everywoman, uses Instagram just like us, cutely awkward Ruth (played by Natalie Portman) discovers she’s being scammed over the internet because the nebbishy and not at all attractive Justin (Tom Hiddleston) tracks down the lover he believes has stomped on his

Now playing

“This is totally the Universe telling me that I should be taking calcium.”

Way to meet the minimum standards for human decency! :DDD

For me, this episode failed not only with depicting yet another rape scene that wasn’t in the books, but by failing to be interesting or adding anything to the original, manifold sins for an adaptation. The writers keep trying to recapture the “high” of previous seasons and it’s working less and less the farther from

Not only that, but it also is a “see how evil Ramsay is? See??” moment with a touch of (probable) Theon redemption arc.

For me, I think the real problem is that a graphic rape scene — graphic meaning one that plays out with direct mention or is shown “on screen,” so to speak — tends to be exploitative along with uncomfortable and unnecessary.

It’s made palatable by rationalizing all that “love” nonsense as the inaccurate ramblings of characters in unimaginably stressful situations. I also did that with the whole “the aliens are us from the future!” plot since that was even worse to me — Cooper wasn’t right about that, he just made an extremely ridiculous

And that’s it, I can’t look at any more of this post.

WW, Bats, and Supes teaming up to save the day would be awesome, in all honesty.

It’s what’d I dub the 27 Club Factor: “Could’ve been so great, if only there was more time.” A mixture of gone too soon from this good Earth and nostalgia. The whole being a Joss Whedon endeavor also helped up the geek mystique.

One need not be a man to be a misogynist.

“Tolerate my bigotry, damn it!”

Pushing equality would make sense ... if all genders were equally repressed. They are not. Men, especially straight men, are not repressed to the same degree nor in the same ways that women are.

Hm, I can see Ryan Gosling in neon-drenched cyberpunk. Thanks to Drive, at least we know he looks good in noir-ish lighting, at least.

I'd much rather see a technological push towards fixing the environmental and energy problems on the planet we have rather than colonizing a planet that is nowhere near habitable, but that probably isn't very "sexy" compared to the (current) pipe dream of getting our asses to Mars.

Most of what I remember about that game is being enraged about Vaan being the viewpoint character who got in the way of everyone who was a hundred times more interesting. Thanks for explaining why that was.

An asymmetrical ... something that ultimately resembles overall shorts with an open half-shirt/hoodie hybrid and a wallet chain the 90s would be jealous over ... Yeah, “absolute worst” is possibly an understatement.

I was hoping to see this in the comments! The Gormenghast books are so dense and strange while being cloaked in this almost alien comprehension of manners and duty, as if someone stuck the imaginations of Jane Austen, J.R.R. Tolkien, and James Joyce in a blender and set it gently on pulse.

Ugh, why did such a thing happen? I've wanted a WW period movie for years. (The pet tiger idea ... not so much.)

I hope this isn't the first sign of bad things to come. :\
