I think you’re reading ridicule where there’s actually just bewilderment tinged with pity.

I had a fantastic Reddit exchange with a lady about that topic. She was very active physically, and good-looking, and a guy (who she wasn’t attracted to physically OR personality-wise) kept pushing her to give him a chance and what a kind, good boyfriend he would be. So finally she gave in and suggested they go bike…
You say “smooth operators”, I say “sexual predators”. No, no one is mad that women had sex with them; they’re mad that these assholes were predating their community while appearing to be upstanding members of it.
A pretender at being Chinese,
To be fair, my comment-writing career was going nowhere as Chad Waspington III.
Well then you can excuse me while I wash my car, water my lawn, play a round of golf on a course with green grass, and eat a handful of almonds.
Sanders wasn’t really seen as all that serious a candidate until Black Lives Matter blew him up, causing white progressives all over the country to take notice, take umbrage, and inevitably take his side.
“Sanders wasn’t really seen as all that serious a candidate until Black Lives Matter blew him up”
this sentence is everything:
Ha, Detroit called, it wants to know why it doesn’t get to sit at the front of the struggle bus.
That’s the thing that gets me. What is the platform that is being advocated for that Sanders somehow isn’t endorsing? None of these handwringing thinkpieces articulate it. Is there a policy that the candidates should endorse? What’s the plan?
You’re totally right—instead of planning to alleviate racism with economic tools, Sanders should instead just plan to make every American sign a pledge stating “I won’t be racist.” That would be a much better solution.
You’re right. Bernie Sanders can’t save black people. And you don’t need to worry about it. Hillary is going to be president and maintain the same center-right politics that have been in place for 8 years. Welcome to America.
What about people who don’t enjoy fucking absolutely everyone? Or who aren’t attracted to little kids or elderly people? Or who prefer monogamy? Or who just want to be left alone? My version of a “feminist utopia” involves a little more egalitarianism and free choice, just sayin’.
I mostly agree! Not much in this article bothers me, but that’s probably because even though I’m straight and enjoy having sex with men from time to time, I don’t typically think very highly of straight cis men as people and don’t care much for their hookup culture (and its lopsided benefits) or what they think of me…
Orlando has to be the #1 pick.
“Certainly, structural sexism exists in ______, but you’re overstating it”
That alias is amazing.
I wish we would talk more about the fact that one thing these mass shootings had in common is a male shooter. Women live in America too and have “mental illness” but yet there is something about our culture that leads men to commit mass shootings. I’m not sure if it’s due to male privilege that comes from belonging to…
Not all murders are gun related, but overall, men tend to be killed by men, while women...tend to be killed by men. There are a lot of factors at play. Yes, it is true that most victims of gun violence are male, but 90% of the homicides in this country are committed by men.
