Emergency procedures: Engine fire during start.

First time that kinda counted was in my uncle’s then-new 1989 Taurus SHO. Stick, of course... so it counts.

TL;DR: About 2 AM in a bad part of town, after about 600 miles of driving that day, I had blowout. Appears to have been malicious. I changed the tire quickly enough to get out of there safely.

SO CLOSE to making it all the way through the can opener...

Might have more than those miles now.

The ability comes in handy in my little town here.

My wife went to a neighboring city to take the test because they were rumored to be easier and not include parallel parking. They included parallel parking. The examiner took pity on her and passed her with the requirement that she learn to parallel park.
She cannot, to this day, parallel park.

I ride thousands of miles a year. I did 30 miles yesterday evening, 30 on Sunday, 66 on Saturday. That’s fairly typical.

As far as your “steel is real” comment... that may be why I, one who has only ridden aluminum frames for about 25 years now, haven’t tried carbon. My wallet wouldn’t stand for that...

On a trip, I’ll use the gas price finder in Waze to determine how far to a reasonably priced station, then make that my interim destination. A great deal of calculation goes into this - most reasonable price within the reported range of the car balanced against remaining distance in the trip, etc.
