@chints: This is a perfect method, I've found. To search for "lifehacker" and not get automatically sent to this site, I hit ctrl+l and type "g lifehacker"...This can totally eliminate the search box!
Actually, for anyone interested, foxmarks is now rolling out this feature in its betas...you can disable/enable it, and use it with different 'profiles' of bookmarks, too! So now you can sync your work passwords to work, and your home ones to home, right along with your different bookmarks for each. [=
I use most of these! And love them all. But I'd have to say that my favorite of all is Mr. Tech's Toolkit (formerly Local Install)...all the config and shortcut options are a lifesaver.
I'll post a list later when I'm home again, but a quick note to all of you launchy users: I just tried and got hooked on nDroid, personally, and it seems somewhat more configurable/fast to me.
I'd say that ndroid has my vote at the moment, I just started using it, but it far outstrips launchy in speed and general customizibality, mainly in the plugin area.
Just for the record, Firefox Portable was available on [portableapps.com] just after FF3 became available...and actually before the record-setting began. So yeah.
Yeah, Pidgin has had this for ages...and It's got a decent portable edition on portabeapps.com. It's my current favorite...only bad thing I've found as of yet it that they don't yet support facebook chat...
Firefox + foxmarks = happiness...the only issue I've seen so far, testing across browsers, is a slightly funky bookmark bar folder. Other than that, no real problems. The nice thing about foxmarks is that there's also an online access.
Also, for those of you like me, who just want it all to work in an external client, I just turned up Babuki; seems to have started as a facebook app, then moved to a separate app.
I'd say that this is useful in terms of what facebook brags about—-that is, being able to chat in real-time—-but I'll probably use the abovementioned script to kill it if it doesn't gain some outside (i.e., to pidgin, digsby, etc.) support soon.
