Now, contrast that with how backward compatibility works on the PS5’s chief competition, the Xbox Series X and S. For the most part, you can just...play old games. There are exceptions, of course, but tons of games from the Xbox One and Xbox 360 work on the latest console. Even some original Xbox games will run. (

“on the PS5’s chief competition, the Xbox Series X and S. For the most part, you can just...play old games”

That’s a solid backlog! I’ve played through Whispers of a Machine and Thimbleweed Park and thoroughly enjoyed both of them.

And I enjoyed Lamplight City by Grundislav Games so much that I’m currently waiting for Rosewater to pop up as available on the wishlist.

Now that you bring it up, another thing I wish I noted in

Considering that mad men as a show was extremely critical of alcohol abuse, misogyny and pretty much every type of prejudice and discrimination... Id say it would be a pretty fitting attitude to have while watching the show.

...a contribution that includes Super Ghouls N’ Ghosts, Demon’s Crest, Breath of Fire 1 and 2 and...nothing else. No Street Fighter. No Final Fight. No arcade ports.

A lot of it hinges on what companies are willing to license to Nintendo, which is a big reason we’ve been observing the steady decline of the Virtual Console over it’s iterations. Games like Earthbound are notorious in their potential copyright issues and probably require being sold to make it worth it. Games like

The best non-Gran Turismo racing game on PS2 was Auto Modellista. I’ll die on this hill.

I’ve said it before, but at some point, a service will come along that “you can subscribe to all the streaming services for one price!” and the headline the next day will be “Congratulations Millennials, You Just Invented Cable TV.”

Sony you raggedy spiteful bitch I love you.

Wow, that really sucks! I know the patch notes said it’d receive a change, but I didn’t realize it’d be so drastic, nor so negative. If anything, you’d think Housemarque would make it heal you fully so you’d save time having to spam it... Major bummer.

Terrific advice. Astute analysis. Plus killer ideas (custom-build runs is genius). A Friday star for you!

Can I just say the atmosphere is absolutely phenomenal. I don’t say that just for the sake of adding grandeur to my comment. Watching several streams, I genuinely want to explore the world for myself. I’ve seen gamers blow past objects and scenery that are worth the stop and ponder. Things like that gets me invested.

Excellent comment. I agree with about everything you wrote. I’m a huge fan of Souls/Borne games, but not roguelikes, because progress wipes are traditionally offputting for me. I think the fact that Returnal has a clear story and therefore a sense of progression is helping me a lot. That said, I’m getting absolutely

This article feels kind of gross. Like, I get the whole angle of helping people save money or w/e, but I feel like going “You should not buy this game (which we think is kinda fun!) because it’s on a streaming service.” is one of the actual boogeymen scenarios that streaming cynics point out.

Honestly, there’s no way this can be explained away as just being stream-of-consciousness from someone who’s not legitimately antisemitic. I’m Jewish, and in 33 years I’ve never heard someone use the word (let alone call me it) except in movies or to specifically list it as a racial slur. And it’s not like it’s out

My old PS2 Slim’s laser just went out the other day, so I get that. I’ve been intrigued by the Polymega, which has a base model that combines a bunch of classic disc-based consoles and expands for cartridge and PC consoles, but a) it’s emulation-based, b) it doesn’t support more powerful consoles like the PS2,

Damn, I loved the TG16. I loved the HuCards, the way the system looked, and the controllers with their built in turbo buttons. It also felt somewhat cool to own one because not many of my friends had one (just one of my friends did). The only problem was games were hard to buy. In my area just Woolworths carried

1988 was such a defining year for me as a child and a gamer. The main draw was Mega Man 2, my first entry into the franchise. Fighting bosses and taking their powers? Sign me right up.

I live everyday without his films in my life so that to me is irrelevant. My only complaint here is that it seems like poor documentary making to rely on the participation of one half of the subjects to the point of dismissing all of those with a contrary story.

I should know better than to open this can of worms and to be entirely clear, I’m not fan of Allen’s, I just find the whole thing odd - Most pedophiles don’t abuse one child and never do so ever again. The lack of other allegations is surprising.
