Which of the options come standard on other cars in this segment? I’d argue the Mini is more well-equipped standard than most cars it competes with. Options like panoramic sunroof that really drive up the price are luxuries that most could easily do without.

Your false dichotomy is proved by its lightweight Buick Encore competitor, which weighs 400-500lbs less and is in the same size class.

At $30+k and in Cooper S trim, that’s a relatively niche market.

JCW versions are always released later.

But at 3,600lbs, there’s really no way on earth you can call it a Mini anymore.

That’s why they have the S and JCW trim levels.

Mini can style a 130-hp CUV, price it at $30k

They’re not bad as long as you don’t load them up with a ton of options. The stuff that really drives up the price like lounge leather seats, panoramic sunroof, upgraded audio, etc. are not necessities.

But what happens when your roof leaks? When your car breaks down? When a fire breaks out?
