No no no gawker you can’t pretend to like Mattis now because he’s cool.

First time I drove a stick was in my dad’s ‘93 Viper.

I think you need to open your mind a little here.

The word is “public official” which generally means an elected or appointed government official.

It does not. However, it would likely factor into a judge’s or jury’s decision. The Biebs was clearly a celebrity who injected himself into public awareness. A kid who happens to be a president’s son who makes limited appearances and never gives a speech may or may not be.

That is a good point. If there was actually a suit here, the defense would definitely raise the fact that he has some celebrity status. The counter argument of course would be that he is a minor who just so happens to be the president’s son, who only makes public appearance on rare occasion, etc.

The malicious intent standard only applies in the case of a public official. For regular people like you and me, and in particular minors who are not star actors or the like who actively put themselves in the spotlight, there is no legal requirement of actual malice, and you simply have to prove that it is an untrue

Good examples of hair color and height, but not the vision bit. The first two are objectively false, and would not cause harm to your reputation since nobody would take it seriously.

Children commit torts all of the time.

Also fair point. I think many of the criticisms of Trump are fair. However, while not completely off-limits, his minor kid should be mostly off limits.

The rules are a lot looser for public officials.

1st amendment doesn’t grant you the right to spread libel about a kid.

Sorry the chip on your shoulder is so large.

Untrue defamatory statement =/= insult.

Barron made many appearances. His being the only child still in school probably has something to do with not making more.

Difference between a public official and a minor child.

It is defamatory if untrue. Nothing reprehensible about that.

Barron Trump is not a public official, he is a minor child. No actual malice proof is necessary.

Libel/slander toward a child.
