Sometimes the popular choice is popular because it’s better. This is one of those times.

A6 does look better but I’d rather roll the dice on one of these to own. I prefer this thing’s interior- it looks better to me and has buttons and knobs- and I haven’t heard anything good about the Audi 3.0TT. Somehow with a hot V turbo setup it still has lag and it doesn’t sound as good as the old supercharged V6.…
I hate that this face is growing on me. To be fair, this is the best implementation yet.
I’ve always wondered why video game engine sounds can be so good while real car fake engine notes are so bad. I skimmed through the video and couldn’t hear anything though
Jalopnik is a site for contrarians with a very, very slight automotive slant. Jalops hate car companies, car dealers, car buyers and to a large degree cars themselves (go ahead- say something positive about crossovers). I come here mainly for entertainment because good automotive editorialism and discourse left the…
I was talking to BiffMagnitude. But realtors provide value too.
There is no way in hell I would buy a car without seeing and driving it. As a parent with toddlers/infants checking all the seat clearances and the like is must. And as someone who is full on OCD about how cars drive- I measured the highway dBs on my last test drive- the notion of committing to a car without running…
I think you nailed it. I also think the only info BMW’s Twitter team has got on the coronavirus epidemic are SEO metrics. “Hey #flattenthecurve is a pretty big hashtag right now.... let’s see what we can do with it”
Not sure what it says about me that I’m sad the 86 is going turbo but happy the Venza is getting a second chance. All the 86 needed was more displacement. Hopefully the Venza is built to the standard of the Avalon and not the Camry this go round. I think it could even replace the Avalon honestly.
Cars are way more robust than they used to be. We have a 2011 MKX. If it had a panoramic moonroof I’d be happy to drive it into the ground.
Are there any professional racing series’ that still use clutch pedals for anything but getting off the line? That and daily driving an automatic are my excuses. Motorcycles are my track weapons of choice and I can downshift a manual smoothly enough without heel and toeing at a street appropriate pace.
Left foot and right foot braking serve completely different purposes for me. I can’t left foot brake on the street and I prefer not to right foot brake on the track if I can.
“All of your examples seem to remove the factor of reduced costs from removing the middleman.”
Again, you can already choose between different cars to get the best price. You can also then choose between retailers once you decide on the car you want. Again, how does removing a layer of choice help consumers?
The only morons are people who think manufacturers are going to willingly drop prices for the hell of it. They are going to keep prices as high as possible and use “factory direct pricing” as a buffer to block negotiation. You can’t haggle with Amazon or Apple... why do you think manufacturers would be any different?
Ha, yes, this too. Wish I could triangulate search results on people who complained about dealers not letting them test drive. I’d bet there is some overlap. No, I don’t want to buy my new $35K car, sight unseen, like a pair of no-name headphones on Amazon.
There’s always someone who says this as well, as though there is some hard and fast rule that new cars have to be affordable for any and everybody. This is a red herring distracting from the broader points of wage deflation/inequality and transportation affordability.
Based on what exactly? WRT inflation and content cars have never been cheaper.
Because with the dealerships out of the way, now manufacturers have to take on all the costs & risks the manufacturers did to sell cars to retail customers. They will have to invest capital to do that, and will need to return a profit on said capital. Plus since all the money is flowing back to the same corporate…
