4th gear- If you tally up all the cars Tesla has been claimed to have impacted or taken sales from, you’d have several multiples of the total auto industry.

For sure, but that’s across the board. I do think there is a reversal though. The new Versa and Corolla have much smaller back seats than their predecessors. I think this was done deliberately to force anyone who needs a back seat into something more expensive. Which is kind of shitty.
I don’t think that’s a knock; people who think we will or should strive to hit 100% EV adoption are lying to themselves.
Most ICEVs don’t have 500 miles of range on one tank, and most people aren’t driving that far in one trip very often.
Next to none; there were like 300 million cars on the road at the time; C4C took out about 690K of them. Saying it had a big impact is like saying removing 2 cars out of a market of 1000 can completely upend the market. This is one of the most annoying myths of the recession that has Keith Richards’d on.
I keep coming back to this anecdote...
Tesla has been burning cash for 16 years though
IMO, if you can’t charge your EV every day while it’s parked, you shouldn’t buy one.
How often do you drive 500 miles in one go?
Neutral: Range isn’t the issue for me. I would only use an EV to commute. It’s the fact that the only compelling EV offering in my price range is from a brand I hate. Musk is an ass and his army of internet accolytes are insufferable.
Thanks for saying what I was thinking more respectfully. No matter how "brown diesel manual wagon" Jalopnik gets about EVs the fact of the matter is mass adoption demand is not here yet. No amount of investment will change that. Nobody wants to pay the 200% price premium for the 400 mile range EVs they claim to need…
Yeah, we definitely still have time. If Aston Martin can make a new V12 then VWAG definitely can.
Hot take: this IS the new Lincoln Continental.
This was my poor attempt at a joke.
Do you think that kind of crash would total the car out? Ripping all the sheetmetal off the side of the car like pulling a sticker off a box?
The average customer hates these infotainment systems too:
3rd- Given BMW’s profit pressures it will be interesting to see how these EVs end up being priced, and whether anyone buys them.
