That's fair, but I still think the Armored Core (god I used to play those games a lot) torsos look more humanoid (especially in proportion) than Battletech torsos, even though Battletech bodies are overall more consistantly humanoid.
There are apps for OSX like BetterTouchTool that let you customize gestures in really complex ways for specific apps or globally. It's quite awesome and free.
For some reason I think it's because in Japan they prefer more humanoid mecha while we prefer more tank-like mechs. Look at Battletech compared to Gundam for example.
