Banning the term “Elon Musk” from names is way easier than banning Nazis. In Germany only specifically IDed Nazi accounts and imagery are banned, there is no magical algorithm that can detect Nazi beliefs that wouldn’t have tons of false positives suspending historians, activists, etc that mention Nazis.

Still frustratingly unclear if this will let you control music apps like Spotify with Siri. Even simply opening and playing my favorite playlist would be a big step.

I miss Sam Biddle’s snarking on techies. I didn’t always agree with him but he did it with style and panache and you could more easily take it with a grain of salt.

Gizmodo went down hill a long time ago. I used to be an avid commenter here, but now it just feels like a place that hates technology. There absolutely is room for critique of tech leaders and how we use technology or the potential for abusing it, but it seems like there is no nuance in it anymore, it’s just attack,

You realize gamergate was a backlash to game developers and games being increasingly more liberal and diverse? This is like disliking Germans for the Nazis.

Tech and spec savvy web designer and developer here. I would lose an enormous amount of efficiency working if I switched to a Windows and Android setup, and I use and know Windows and Android well (I’m a gamer and I have to test web sites on Android phones/browsers).

I knew Apple haters would be right wingers!

To be fair popular actors/actresses and singers have cheated and most people say it’s wrong but not our business and not immoral enough to impact how we view their work.

There you have a point, and it is likely that evo-psych attracts researchers who want to prove a biased point, just like there was a big increase in the popularity of phrenology when racist assholes thought they could use it to prove that non-white people were less intelligent.

As someone who does product design and research I can tell you that won’t work. User interviews and surveys are absolutely important, but they also tend to tell you that people want faster horses.

I’m sorry but this would slow down software and hardware development enormously without providing nearly as much security benefit as you may think.

Bad examples of science speak more to the scientists doing the work than to the topic of research inherently. There are also anecdotes of bad evolutionary (non-psych) research, but that doesn’t mean we are incapable of studying it.

Except that none of the Android users I know actually do this with their Roku or Chromecasts, yet all the iOS users I know with Apple TV regularly use AirPlay. While in theory they are equally easy to use, the difference in actual usage is noticeable and speaks to how apparent and intuitive the feature is.

So I was playing with my friend’s S8 the other day, and I was pretty damn surprised to notice a distinct difference in how smooth scrolling felt compared to my iPhone.

I’m guessing you are still relatively young if this is your response. I don’t like Travis Kalanick much, but he is not a monster, just a selfish asshole.

Holy shit commenters here are the worst.

It’s amazing that you are focusing more on his “debating skills” and the exact interpretation of your sentence rather than the crux of the argument which is that somehow media posting “petty” things distracted young people from working together.

Uhhh, it was @TheShillsHaveEyes who started this thread.

You think that different reporting on Trump would make conservatives or liberals attempt to work together on something?

Not sure I would blame EA here. EA and Dice also make the Battlefield series which are excellent (and even built in the same engine) and have the same approach to releasing content. However Battlefront was dumbed down to cater to a broader audience and younger players.
