Still not understanding the people in the comments and in general who believe we are smarter to invest in Cold War style planes instead of our infrastructure, education, and health.

Especially if you spent all your money on bombs and not infrastructure and you end up with an awesome military but nothing to defend!

China, one of our largest trading partners and one of the biggest players in the global economy.

What if that future is an America decimated by overspending on its military budget? Or worse, what if that money should have been invested in PRACTICAL military applications we are actually likely to use and then we get into a war we aren't prepared for since we put all of it into Cold War style planes.

I didn't mean to come across as indignant, more annoyed at the general misconception of sonic booms that I see in every article mentioning it.

Everything I wrote agrees with that.

No it actually does sort of sound like a distant cannon firing followed by a roar.

Am I the only one who doesn't want to watch shows about my generation and demographic?

You are confusing my statement.

My point isn't silly, but I do agree with you.

Not a single person I know who uses Instagram is a tween.

And people say I'm crazy when I predict we will replace most manned aircraft missions in the next two decades.

The sonic boom IS that wall of sound. You are correct that it starts a little before actually going supersonic though. It isn't just one boom when they break the barrier, it is a constant boom trailing behind any object going supersonic.

The boom doesn't happen only when a plane reaches supersonic speeds. At supersonic speeds the boom is ALWAYS there, you only hear it when the plane passes you.

The plane in the video is not going anywhere close to the speed of sound, therefore no boom.

You are absolutely correct about supersonic planes always having a boom lagging behind them, it is not just one boom when it breaks the sound barrier.

I hate how this has to be explained in every article about sonic booms on the internet.

Just because it is scary, doesn't change the reasons for it.

Learning CSS is ridiculously easy. Far easier than learning Spanish.

Please tell me they do this with a breastcognizing algorithm!
