You can stream music or video from any of your apps, not just your iTunes music.

Streaming of any iOS media app, playing iOS games on the big screen (small screen becomes extra screen for maps or menus), etc.

The Apple TV becomes worth it when you have an iPad or iPhone to stream content to it. Don't judge it based on the built in content alone.

Considering iPad 2 and iPhone 4S and above can mirror to it, not to mention just about any media app can stream to it, it has enormous functionality.

The new interface is actually a lot faster than the old one, despite some subjective aesthetic complaints.
