When I had to do an emergency axle swap on the CST10, I had to leave it axle-less for two nights. I put the rear frame on a few jack stands, at the truck's ride height. I rolled the tires back under the empty wheel wells, and kept them in place with very small rocks.
@doug-g: In fact, Mercury and to some extent Lincoln were complacent with making boring and utterly average luxury cars and look what happened to them.
@doug-g: But the LS series of motors and the Sigma (Very close to the Zeta) platform are no Clydesdale. Both things known very well in racing. And beside's Jalopnik's ADD approach to the car, it's very subdued and comfortable when driven as such.
