As an outsider, this is my sense as well. Seems like a lot of homer reporters in the Bay, and Kawakami, while certainly trending toward the negative, is probably closer to "objective" than the cheerleaders are. And I think that rubs a lot of fans who only want good news the wrong way.

I've stayed in the Bay my whole life so I can't compare us to other markets that well, but the vibe I get is that he's basically a "real" sports reporter in a market full of homer softballers. So he sticks out like a sore thumb, but he's actually the more normal one.
