No, I am pretty much convinced now that a person should never use the vertical orientation.
It has to do with the orientation of our eyes. Our field of vision is wider than it is taller, so (for a lot of people) 'landscape' is the default and natural way of seeing things. Maybe your eyes are stacked on top of each other, though. I shan't judge.
