Mothers have some weird ideas about beards. Mine told me never to kiss a man with a beard because if the stubble pricks you, you'll grow a little hair their, as if the beard was some infectious life-form trying to spread to others.

I liked it too. I was a broke college student in the States from a French family and I found it in the $2 bin at Borders. I was living 600 miles from my family for the first time and the recipes have a remarkable amount of what is for me comfort food. The woman is a little nuts in that she seems to think all of…
I'm a freelance artist and I've rarely worked for women, but the ones I have worked with have tended to be the best bosses. I don't know how it works for other industries, but here we claw our way up the art ranks by being better and faster than the person on the next ladder over. The women editors seem to know that…
The video isn't special. Reporter, kid, snail, kid, snail, mom, kid, mom, reporter, kid, happy ending. The worst is a close up of the now healed knee with the snail next to it. And the snail is TINY.
That's faulty reasoning. A really talented graphic designer will have an easier time getting a job than someone in an area with an absolute glut of STEM. I know moderately talented animators who became well paid producers and a woman who majored in 3D design with an emphasis in toy production who is now very well…
These articles baffle me. The majority of the people I know, most of whom are living comfortably but firmly around the poverty line, live independently. Moving back in with the parents isn't an option. They're either too poor, too abusive, too indifferent, too far away or any combination of those. Everyone left as…
A friend of mine and his brother (Irish twins) lived with their parents until their later 20s. I'm friends with the whole family so I got to see all the sides of the mess, including the bizarre decline of the siblings from functional dopey teenagers to self-absorbed parasites. The older brother is sort of a loser…
Can't honestly say I'm impressed with any of these. The most creative ones are still derivative of better dresses, but most of them look like prom dresses from Deb.
This is basically the seat that I got. You can find less expensive versions. The cutaway provides a pleasant little scoop so that when you're riding for long distances (I typically do 20 miles a day) in one shot, you don't have a hard plastic nightmare jamming itself up into you. I prefer foam seats to gel because…
It really depends on the shape of the seat. My bike was stolen and when I recently replaced it, the new seat was a nightmare. It caused...severe chaffing...in spectacularly unpleasant places. Two new bike seats later I have apparently solved the problem but my god what a painful process.
Honestly, if they made one of these for bike riding I'd totally get it. Once I started hitting 15+ miles a day....there are issues.
It sounds like you've got a good plan going for you, and if you're miserable at your job and this affords you an out, do it. I loath my job and if I thought I could get another in my field withing three months I would quit in a heartbeat.
Possibly not applicable but whenever I need to do gifting and I am broke, I bake. I've done this for a close friend's wedding, birthdays, and Christmas. I've never seen anyone open a gift and be sad it was full of cookies. Personal favorites found on this site. Like these.
I lived in a building like that. I'd have been willing to build them a "smoker's gazebo" 30 feet from the building if it meant I could open my windows in summer.
UHG. I had to move my AC to a less convenient window just avoid the same problem.
I used to live in an apartment without AC where the windows to my bedroom overlooked the front entrance. In the summer, I would like to have had to my windows open and a fan going to get some nice air circulation going. Alas, this was only possible late at night/early in the morning because the other building's…
When you're 15 and it's yet another thing to worry about in the awkward social hellscape that is the high school pecking order, you see recipients become hyper-conscious of their actions and social groups, sometimes over-correcting. It's panic over becoming "other." It's why those terms work. So many kids are…
I understood what you meant by those terms, and they generally make me very uncomfortable. I heard them in my very diverse high school, and they were usually used to police people's interests and social groups. "Acting _____" was a short way of saying, "you are not behaving the way your stereotypical ethnic group…
I moved from Detroit to Minneapolis. The number of black people I meet on a daily basis now has dropped precipitously. Which is not to say that the area isn't racially diverse. There is a large Hmong, Vietnamese and Latino population, and I know far more openly queer people than I ever did in Detroit.
I would like to add that this doll's big feature is that she literally stands on her own, no stand, hand or podium required.
