I was pre-registered to vote @ 17 literally in high school during APUSH class.

So I wonder if part of it is that by making voting a weekday thing it’s almost a sort of class based filter system, where only those with decent/flexible hours can ensure they get to the polls.

Same here. We covered it quite thoroughly when I was in school here in Texas. The school district my kids are/were in didn’t use the crappy history book to teach slavery. They used district created “supplements”* that discussed the wrongness of slavery.

Temping seems to be a big part of getting in the door. I know many people who got their jobs that way.

Thankfully, most of the grandparents/relatives have no problem with this concept (now, that is, I had to do some explaining/boundary setting in the beginning).

It’s a generational educational thing too. I’m an Xer. Barely. They still taught penmanship and cursive and typing classes and all that shit when I was in school.

I really get this. My siblings (and aunts & uncles our age) grew up as JWs. We started sorta celebrating after we were all grown up and we first started having kids. Now, we all out give kids presents and some even have (gasp) Christmas trees. Our own kids think it is the weirdest thing to not celebrate this fake*…

I saw this on my FB timeline when the Al Franken crap came out. Almost all women over 40 were like “it’s not that big a deal, jeez” and everyone younger was appalled. And once again, as a 45-y.o. I felt out of step with my generation.

I don’t know about social class, but I do think a lot of women over a certain age are having a problem simply because in their generation, it was just how it was.

I ain’t gonna lie. I have been planning my outfit since thanksgiving. I still don’t feel that I have it right.

We’ve failed if we don’t have a career, spouse, kids, house, etc. I’m not sure why we keep adding extra burdens to women with each generation.
