My high school had a technical school that taught a lot of vocational classes. You could go to high school full time and graduate with a cosmetology license, for example. We also had to pass a basic Microsoft Office skills test to graduate.

If you want to prepare kids for the future, make a mandatory class around basic life skills - how to be financially responsible (budgeting, balancing a checkbook, how credit cards/loans work, etc), how to write a resume/prepare for an interview, how to manage your time, etc. This is just nonsense.
