Hard pass.  You can’t make a turd like crystal skull and expect me back.

Exactly, all of this. I was pretty amazed they found a way to get there: the surprise antagonist literally weaponizes the canon to disenfranchise a Black Spider-Man.

And if it wasnt obvious already, Miguel straight up tells Miles that he “doesnt belong here.”

Same, the prologue and his intro, my IMAX theater was just drowned out by the music tracks.

I personally am trans, so I’m primed to look for it. But yeah, the argument that Gwen is personally trans is not compelling.

In real life, no, but the PDNY is notably more progressive and less murder-y than real police.

If you’re going to compare this to real life, do you know a lot of NYC cops like Miles’ dad who openly cooperate with vigilantes? I don’t think any of this is persuasive, but YMMV.

As a CIS white guy I always worry about venturing into this kind of discussion and I haven’t seen the movie yet (Monday!). But the evidence above seems pretty unpersuasive and it’s not hinted at anywhere else in her character. Having to hide half your life from your loved ones is a recurring theme of Spider-man (and

Ha, exactly the image that came to me too when he did that.

Exactly, like Miles and Gwen clearly have feelings for each other but a love triangle would have cheapened the whole thing. Gwen isn’t a prize for Miles to win from Hobie (or anyone else) and the movie knows that.

Yeah, if I hadn’t already known about Hobie from the comics I would have been a lot more confused.

Came here to say just this.

ASTV uses a really complicated sound mix for the vocals and music, but several theaters are leaving the levels too low. The sound is amazing if you find the right one.

Right, like Miles is definitely jealous based on little things like “Hobie sounds cool” and “Gwen has spent the night at his place” but the combination that 1) Hobie is so darn cool and is genuinely on Miles’s side from the start and 2) Gwen’s home life is largely non-existent so she’s gotta spend the night somewhere

I’ve heard a lot of people complaining about the audio levels being low in some scenes (for me it was mostly the opening with Gwen and Hobie’s backstory), though his accent is going to make it hard for a lot in the US to understand him regardless.

I think so too, about the Valhalla reveal meaning we will probably see Jane again

Yeah, I *loved* the moment when Miles is in the energy trap and amidst all the Spider-folks telling Miles that this is how it has to be, Hobie just motions to use the palms.

I was a bit worried his rebellion was just lipservice and he’d toe the party line of the Spider Society and I’m so glad I was wrong. Hobie fucking ruled. I love how much of an instigator he was for Miles’s story.

Hobie might have been the person to assemble the new Spider-watch Gwen would use to gather a team of Spider-people to save Miles.

I don’t necessarily think this is a hot take. I’m pretty certain this is what they were going for.
