Right. I like to think of evolution as a series of “shots* in the dark”.
You have no idea what you’re shooting at, but when you hit something, you use that as your new starting place, and go for another round of shots in the dark.

*each shot is a random mutation, each round is a generation

It makes sense that they would still have circadian rhythms and want to move towards light. These behaviors helped their pre-dark ancestors, and there was never anything to encourage natural selection against these behaviors.
