Aww, I had a sweet little red girl too — they're fairly rare, seems the red gene is usually a male thing. I don't believe it's quite as consistent as calicos/torties being female, but red kitties are mostly male, anyway.

While abuse is a possibility, what if the kid just has older sibs who are into horror movies? It's possible once he realized he could make other kids uncomfortable by saying these kinds of things, the opportunistic bully in him took over.
