The teacher immediately went to the police, and has also filed a hostile-environment lawsuit — seems to me she's upset, offended, and feeling violated. How is that different from the tone of the article?

I am so sorry. Losing one is really, really awful. Losing two is beyond cruel. Unfortunately I've been there, and there aren't words enough to describe it (this was at the same time as my dad dying, so I was really ready to lose it).

Eventually. They've got to rule out rabies first.
Rabies watch first, dead dog later.
Rabies watch first, kill later.
It will be, just as soon as they're sure it doesn't have rabies. Little boy doesn't need additional trauma of rabies shots.
Mom heard/saw dog returning, chased off the dog. Mom keeps custody, but is willing to share with the awesome cat.
Dog was returning. The "bad" mother ran to chase the dog away. Dog bit her too.
Dog was returning, Mom ran to chase it away. Dog bit Mom too.
Mom ran to chase dog away; was bitten in the process, too.
"I like how the mom sees the dog under the truck, and drops the boy to hightail it out of there [protect her son by chasing the dog away (getting bit in the process)]."
You were hoping for a little walkie-talkie SWAT-team/commando action? Throwing herself at the dog was pretty damned heroic, if you ask me most.
Mom was right there. If you can't let your kid play a few feet from you on your own property, then the world is officially fucked. Why are you side-blaming the victim? If an asteroid hit the kid the cat couldn't have helped that either. Geesh.
Mom knew where the dog was — it was coming back and she ran off to chase it away. Sustained bites herself, doing that.
Rule out rabies first. Kill later.
Mom was *right* there, only a few feet away.
Rabies watch. Need to be sure the kid doesn't also get to experience the joy of rabies treatment.
Mom heard dog returning and ran to head it off, getting bit herself in the process.
8-month-old golden/chow mix.
