I think 30 Rock always had its heart in the right place with social satire, but there are instances—particularly in terms of queer representation—that haven’t aged well. This at least seems like a step in the right direction. And in the end, 30 Rock is still one of the best sitcoms of the century.

Not that making violent/disturbing stuff makes you a bad person, but gee it sure is a surprise that a show so obsessed with women suffering had a DOP that’s kind of a creep.

There’s so many younger players who just take it all for granted and speed through the game, But I love Shirley’s pure enjoyment of the game. Her innocence and wonder she brings to it. She takes her time and carefully explores the world. She’s very mindful what she grabs and what it’s worth.

What is it about cartoons these days doing better story lines and character arcs than entire multi billion dollar franchises and 22 ep long season shows?

The last season was spectacular, particularly how the show handled Catra.

Just read issue #1 of this recently, I was hooked the moment I saw John mention that being a super-hero just wasn’t his scene.  And Justice League Dark was fine, but it’s nice to go back to a Constantine that’s more of a con-man and moving in the shadows.

Ellis’ shamelessness is matched only by his skill. Planetary was the pinnacle of meta-textual comic books and we have not seen its like since. His work at Wildstorm established him as a literary god. This, Stormwatch>The Authority, Global Frequency, and Desolation Jones are some of the best things ever put on paper.

When I read it at the time, I thought he was becoming King Mob (it would fit, right?) but you’re right, this is Spider Jerusalem.

As a fan of Warren Ellis, Transmetropolitan and Constantine, I most definitely didn’t squee the first time I read that issue of Planetary.

Like Jack Carter (a character who definitely wasn’t John Constantine) said when he turned into a character who definitely wasn’t Spider Jerusalem... “The Eighties are long over. Time to move on. Time to be someone else.”

Yeah, what made John Constantine such a compelling character was NOT that he was a Doctor Strange-style, “pew pew” trippy-magic sorcerer... but that he was just a really, really, REALLY good con-man (with a few tricks up his sleeve).

1) Gemma didn’t hit him with the dart, so he’s probably not dead in the original series.

2) The final arc of the series was about him having a young pretender who looked just like him showing up.

From a meta-textural standpoint, I think the message for the previous series is pretty clear: This is John’s relative…

It seems his whole ‘sickness’ appearance is a classic mafia move. At least during the Italian mafia reign in RI in the 70's-90's, several of the bosses who were on trial would fake heart attacks or exaggerate other conditions to post-pone conviction, gain sympathy, etc.
