Thank you for the Twilight Breaking Dawn: II spoiler!
I knew about Science Debate 2008, but the problem then and now, is that the people trying to pull it off are scientists. I am not a scientist, merely a science enthusiast, but I have made a not insignificant portion of my income from running political campaigns (only state-wide races).
When I read the headline, my first reaction was jubilation, "Finally, we are going to have a presidential debate focused on Science." but then I realized my mistake.
These are amazing photos! One of these days, I will get around to finishing my Jack Skellington cosplay costume. Being 6'4" and skinny as a bean pole already, with the help of drywall stilts, I should have just enough height to be menacing.
When I was wee lad, I found my father's stash of Playboys and absconded with a few. Obviously, I grabbed them for the boobies but as I aged, I found myself loving the articles, short stories and editorials in those 15+ year old magazines.

You have to admit, it is a little weird that two distinct and independent cultures were able to build gigantic stone structures, a sophisticated understanding of astronomy, a robust study of mathematics and the wherewithal to support a large complex society; but, the idea of a wheel and axle was a bridge too far.
I am not an economist, but I play one on the internet. And the big problem that I always have with these types of calculations is that they always ignore the fact that assets and the cost of work (energy) are not static.
Obviously both our experiences are anecdotal, but personally I have met far more individuals that believe all governmental regulation is an abomination than I have met individuals that believe all industry should be controlled centrally. I would say 30 to 1. Now, that isn't to say that many liberals (myself…
Exactly, unfortunately in the current political climate the debate is not between two sides arguing nuanced policy differences but between ideologues and "everybody else". There are ideologues of all political persuasions but currently more of them are in the "Regulation Bad!" camp. 80 years ago the opposite was…
To put it another way, it is the societal equivalent, if you found some in the process of burning down your house, you might scream at them "G*dd*mn you SOB!" even though in reality you might not actually want to condemn them to eternity in a fiery pit and their mother might not be a female dog.
