Lol. I describe it as a brake check because the person slammed on their brakes to make a point, instead of moving over. That’s what a brake check is. Doesn’t matter how close or far the vehicle behind is.

I don’t tailgate people. Ever. I remain a fair ways behind them, patiently. I always give them at least a good 30 seconds of them not passing anyone at all before I give them a friendly flash of my lights to say, “Hey do you mind moving over so I can pass you properly?” That doesn’t warrant a brake check at all.…
Yup! They're pretty good, though I'm told they can be also made a lot brighter by modding them with a "clear" lens instead of the "dimpled" lens they come with. Something to look into down the road :D
Ooo, a lot to unpack here. First off, if you aren’t actively passing someone, you shouldn’t be in the left lane. So yes, if you’re blocking me from going the speed “I personally want to go” and you aren’t passing anyone, you are a left lane hog. You don’t get to camp out in the left lane just because you’re doing a…
I didn’t walk 3 feet in front of my car, so that I was outside of the focused beam and say, “Well, that’s not bright at all!” I actually had the car on jackstands up front, and stood 20 feet away, so I was standing directly in the line of fire. It is incredibly bright, but I was still able to look at it without crying…
This is a 20", single row light bar. Not a 50", dual-row death machine. Is it brighter than my high beams? Yes. Is it as bright as the sun? No. A brief flash isn’t all that deadly. I’d know. I walked in front of my car to see how bright it was. I didn’t die. I didn’t go blind. You know what is more blinding? Staring…
It is not at all hypocritical of me to say “fuck people who drive around with their light bars on all the time” and then say “I have flashed people here and there.” Those are not conflicting statements. At all. They are entirely different things. But sure. Because I’ve flashed my light bar for a total of a few seconds…
Not my fault that tons of people drive around with their high beams on all the time.
Your solution to a left lane hog is that *I* should slow down? Lol, you're ridiculous.
Lol. I just meant angling the car a few degrees towards them for a half second. I love how people take everything I say to the extreme. “Veering” was probably the wrong word. I’m talking about a vehicle that is still way ahead of me. I’m not swerving out of my lane towards them. They likely can’t even tell I moved.…
So put some 1980's style sealed-beam headlights on your car, then, if that's all you need! ;)
Lol “weaponized.” Nobody died. Nobody swerved. All that happened was they went, “Ah shit,” and turned their high beams off.
I guess I am. But since in all 3 instances of my doing that over the month that I’ve had this bar, that split second flash actually worked in getting them to turn off their high beams, and not one of them then proceeded to completely spear off the road in a bout of blind confusion, I’m going to go ahead and say it was…
“Let me ask the one main question that this article answers in detail.”
Thanks for a well-reasoned reply! And I agree. I actually don’t use it (or my high beams in general) all that often, because it’s usually not appropriate.
I totally agree and hate that cops seem to completely ignore those people, but will then ticket someone for going 5 over. Like the high beams are way worse violation!
Nothing like sketchy wiring jobs to make you wonder when your car is going to suddenly burst into flames! Lol.
I wish Kinja wasn’t so fucking useless and I actually knew which comment of mine you were replying to, lol. What is extreme?
Oh absolutely. This is doubly accurate for me since I’m in a lowered BRZ. I think people took my statement in my OP to mean I drive around flashing people left and right while laughing maniacally. In reality I’ve flashed maybe 3 or 4 people in the month that I’ve had it on the car. And I always make damned sure…
Check out Diode Dynamics then. They’re a bit more moderately priced, and still make good stuff :)
