Their AWD systems are not what they used to be with CVT autos only sending ~10% torque to the rear wheels during regular driving.

Ugh. You missed the point. None of these things are TRULY necessary. The point is that all of these things are things that once you own a car with, you won’t want to own a car without them, because they are truly convenient.
Once you have push start, needing to take your keys out of your pocket to start the car just becomes annoying :P
