You seem to be under the impression that the only meaningful statistic for a car is how much power it has, and how quickly it accelerates. There are people (myself included) who would call the WRX, or even the STi, a downgrade from the BRZ.

I’m okay with this. I guess I get defensive when people say the current car sucks, and needs more power. Untrue. It is just meant for a specific group of people. Adding an additional trim level is fine, but I don’t want the cheap, low-power, RWD sports car segment to disappear again!

This is about how much power the BRZ needs before people will stop complaining.

Yeah, I run 255s on mine currently. The question isn’t whether the rear end can handle it, but whether the OEM trusts the rear end to handle it for 100,000 miles. They consider a lot of stuff, including not only the added power, but the fact that people will be putting stickier tires on it, etc...

It’s not the engine that’s the issue. It’s everything else. Especially when you consider that this car is already “overweight” compared to something like the Miata, adding beefier bits to support the added power would just be continuing to head in the wrong direction.

Those are exactly that: big, heavy muscle cars. It’s easy to throw power at a car when the only weight criteria is that it weigh at least 17 tons!

The MazdaSpeed Miata only made 17x HP. That’s 30 less than the BRZ currently makes...

The reliability ratings took a hit due to the teething issues the vehicles had in the first year-or-so of production. Most of those issues were ironed out by the 2015 model year, and the 2017 refresh made lots of additional tweaks to fix the rest.

Neither the WRX, nor the STi are about light weight. Adding weight to a car that already isn’t about light weight doesn’t matter.

The Twins were always meant to be the same thing... not sure why everyone seems to think they were meant to compete with Mustangs and 370Zs. Maybe that’s Scion’s stupid advertising or something...
