Regarding your second paragraph, I don’t see that being different for any other company anywhere else trying to maximize profit. Any for-profit company will cut corners as much as they’re allowed to get away with. That’s why you have to lock down every spec and have proper QC.

A manufacturer tries to cut corners to maximize profit? I’ll alert the media! That’s why you have to have proper quality control and lock in the suppliers and materials spec. You can’t expect another company you hire out work to to do that for you.
