Unless the phone is able to determine which seat in the vehicle it is being operated from, the fix (presumably disabling functions when speed exceed X) would disable all passenger iPhones as well.
You say that there is no meaningful way but what if their patent was able to make a meaningful way that would have worked? If they just sat on a patent (preventing others from making a meaningful way) does that make them liable?

There was a CVT based F1 car back in the ‘90's, but it was banned before ever getting to race (was only tested). Apparently it was like 7 seconds faster per lap than other cars.

How about a re-styled mustang, with a softer ride and quiet interior. Nicer materials inside as well. Then they could capitalize on the Mustang volume for parts and make an inexpensive, youth-oriented model.
