I wouldn’t worry too much. There are a lot of actually good competitors now, some using even better technology. 

There is no way Monster Squad is more timeless. It felt antiquated the year it was released. 

Monster Squad was “fun” but is has no staying power. Watch it now and it’s like “oh nice, like kinda of an 80s kitch monster movie for kids, not bad.” Lost Boys is an actually still good movie. It’s not perfect but it still entertains and works as a great concept.
