I think it’s been the shift in content the last couple of years. In the earlier days of the streaming of version of Netflix, the focus was on quality and cost be damned. Overtime, executives wanted to be the end-all, be-all of shows.

The 3DS which has been around since smart phones have taken off has sold over 57 million so far which isn’t too bad considering what console sales have been since then. That’s in the same ball park as the NES, SNES, and 50% better than the PS4 which is the best selling current gen console. Source
