Lencos have been a staple of professional drag racing since the 1970s. They're the polar opposite of "for show" and can handle absolutely ridiculous amounts of power.

Did Spiegel call me a hipster and I missed it?
Pff, that was just info straight from Wikipedia!
Mine is an '88 Euro-spec that was sold new here in Sweden with sideskirts (but not foglights or cruise control), and while it's registered as a "Toyota Celica GT-Four", all the badges on the car say 4wd Turbo. From what I've seen this is true for all LHD Euro-specs, but it wouldn't surprise me if the RHD UK-spec was…
Not the FWD top trim 2.0 GTi (that's the name it had in Europe at least), but the lesser trims got various weaksauce S family engines, including both the 2S-FE and 3S-FE (as well as two 1.8 liter variants), but never anything above 2 liters. The 5th and 6th generations (T180 and T200 chassis) did get the 5S-FE though.
I wonder why they'd rallycross a FWD Celica 2.0 GTi (VIN ST162) instead of the top trim AWD 4wd Turbo (VIN ST165). If it weren't for the fact that the commentator says that the Audi is the only AWD car in the race I'd say it's an ST165 given how quick it is (the N/A 3S-GE is pretty lame in comparison to the turbo…
The Prelude heralded an era of big front-wheel drive coupes that we haven't really seen from the Japanese manufacturers over the past few years. Save for the Nissan Altima coupe, they've been a bit rare these days, and you may see a base Prelude trolling the grungier parts of town. It's in that odd period of…
Oh man did I hate doing Katas when I practiced Karate as a kid. I was pretty decent at it, but it still wasn't really all that much fun. It feels artificial and forced (the ridiculous scripted screams don't help either), but I guess that's because I never got particularly far (did it for about 2-3 years on and off in…
Hell yes! Chromeo are awesome, I can't wait for the new album!
some of its hotter offerings for 1967
Had a good chuckle at that, thanks.
Well, in real life my experience is that once you start going into advanced stuff while talking to non-enthusiasts (emphasis on "non", as in really not into cars) they quickly lose interest and either walk away from the conversation or come up with some (often very weak) comprehension-based argument to why it's…
That's taking it up another level by separating grip and handling from each other, which is getting into more advanced territory than I felt was appropriate for Jezebel.
Handling, in automotive terms, has absolutely nothing to do with controlling speed and acceleration and besides that an experienced driver can brake far more effectively with a manual car (using engine braking). Handling is, in very basic terms, how fast the car can go around a corner without losing traction and…
Okay then geez Chevy I guess I do have a 5th gen Camaro I like.
Agreed, I love that movie (although the original graphic novels are even better)! The game isn't too bad either, although I still haven't sat down with it long enough to finish it.
As a person who's played flight sims since about age 5 I've always visualized normal vs. inverted controls as moving the nose (normal) or the tail (inverted) up or down with the stick. Of course, that visualization only works for airplanes but it's still why I can get used to normal or inverted controls very quickly…
Aren't those their actual Russian designations though? I thought NATO names were names like "Flogger", "Hind" or "Flanker"?
BRIAN JACQUES DIED?! WHAT THE FUCK?!
