When I was born they whisked me away to the newborn viewing area, as was custom many years ago. So Dad went to check me out, and on his return Mom asked “How is the baby? How does he look?” and Dad answered “He’s kind of weird-looking.” Mom cried.

Yes, the lefty agitprop is getting too heavy-handed here. Maybe someone can start another sports/pop culture site without the heaping sides of white guilt.
This was in the early 60s... maybe he wasn’t back then?
My father-in-law loves to tell this story: early 60s he is standing on the sidewalk outside Nathan’s on Coney Island when a limo sidles up. A guy from inside starts calling to him with a British accent: “Ey! You! Come ‘ere minute!” After ignoring him at first, FiL looks over and the guy says “Can you get me a couple…
A long time ago at work we got an email that Law and Order would be filming in our office. I had never seen the show so I was unfazed. I ended up getting stuck late at work that night and around 8:00 an older gent came by my cube and asked to use a phone, and I said sure, go ahead. He sat at an open cube across from…
My daughter was a huge fan of his for whatever reason young girls latch onto random actors. We took her to see him in Greenwich Village in an off-off-broadway play he wrote. After every show, every night, he comes outside and signs autographs and takes pictures and chats with people pretty much as long as they want…
Years ago I went to a big boxing match in Atlantic City with a friend and our wives. He was very wired into the NYC social scene at the time and always had an “in”, so we went to the big afterparty at a nearby bar. Neither fighter was there (I think one was Tracy Patterson) so were just hanging out drinking, and then…
Seconded. I am 5’10” and when I am running and lifting (not the case right now) I weigh around 185 and look great for an old guy. Broad shoulders, big chest, muscular legs... and the BMI calculator says I am borderline obese. My doctor laughed at it and said pay BMI no mind, it doesn’t account for people with muscles.
I saw Daughtry play (for free) after a ballgame, and it wasn’t bad. Solid rock, a little corporate-y, but still better than that screechy diva shit that the OP seems to think should win every year.
Ugh, there must be one in every school. The girls actually liked ours, so we would crank the music up to 11 when he showed up at our parties with his guitar and drown him out.
She got the worst advice/instructions ever on Idol. Girl is a straight-up knockout, so dress her in ridiculous old-lady-in-the-1970s flowing garbage bags. She sang some lousy songs, too.
Rock Star Supernova was so much better than Idol. Mainly because rock is so much better than pop and R&B. And Dilana was great, she should have won.
Jennifer Hudson is Ella Fitzgerald compared to Fantasia Barrino. How did that colossal no-talent ever win anything? I would pay money to avoid hearing her “sing”. What the hell is that weird buzzing sound she makes?
Bo Bice was great on Idol. I thought he was destined for more but it’s nice to hear he is happy.
Because that basic human interaction of being anally violated, beaten, and occasionally stabbed does wonders for them.
That was purely an example. But I also stand by my assessment. Maybe I have oppositional-defiance disorder.
I take much of what the mental-health profession pronounces with a ton of salt. They are quick to issue findings that - surprise - require more money be spent on mental health services. “Oh, that guy’s not an asshole - he has borderline personality disorder. Let me sell you some pills and therapy for that!”
Like I said elsewhere, there has to be a middle ground between the medieval solitary lockdown with no entertainment or interaction and the barracks-style rape factories we pay for today. Keep inmates physically separated but allow them to interact using technology. Or a window.
I would take the chance of going insane over that of being raped by a diseased cretin, or stabbed. Solitary sounds like a picnic compared to GP. Gimme a couple of books, it’s all good.
My point is not how easy it is to be a prisoner. (It should not be easy at all.) It’s that it should be a safe environment where criminals can acquire the education and skills they need to succeed on the outside. And part of that is to keep them all separated. Packing a few hundred violent gang members and sociopaths…
