Yet another game that did not release on the WiiU platform...
Microsoft only wants to do so when it’s at a great benefit for them. They didn’t want the console version of L4D to have cross-play. They didn’t want the 360 version of Portal 2 to have it either (the PS3 version was fully coopable with the Steam version).
I know, right? I didn’t even call anyone (with a pulse) a shithead. (Disclaimer, I did infer Nintendo to be involved in “dickheadery” but they are a non-person person.) I think I fail at this internet thing. . .
Same. I couldn’t care less about the rest of Gawker media, but Kotaku is full of nice people and writers, and it’s a nice place to be.
It’s a very weird thing to see this fracturing in the console ecosystem. We’ve been putting up with this shit in other markets for ages, e.g. Android phones, but historically consoles don’t really get meaningful half-life hardware upgrades. So, running with the plane analogy, the original XBOne just found out that…
Same here, between all the exclusives, retailers pre-order bonus bullshit, and now we have to upgrade every two-three years, PC is gonna be next
Not to mention fragmentation never works for consoles. 32X, 64DD, Sega CD to name a few.
The difference is that these are not entirely new consoles.
Exactly my point. This takes away the one advantage consoles have - a stable platform that you don’t have to upgrade every couple years.
I am confused. isn’t this exactly like being a PC gamer? the beauty of the console is the stable platform, that I can open a game and put it in and it plays. no fussing about with drivers or settings, no needing to upgrade my memory or CPU to play, shit just works on consoles. this semi-new-console thing feels very…
And enjoy encouraging a monopoly who has a stranglehold on PC gaming!
Don’t treat that as a casual move. MS is only doing that because it’s helpless behind Sony this generation (with no perspective of ever getting ahead of it) and is artificially ending the current generation within just 4 years.
Consoles don’t compete with PC and only work to hinder the potential of PC graphics. By the time this comes out in 2017 or whenever, whatever GPU they chose for this will be obsolete and easily outclassed by PC graphics only leading to dragging PC down again for another 3 or 4 years.
Which is exactly what Microsoft wants. If they can get console users to move over to PC then they pretty much win as they don’t have to spend a dime on hardware design and can stick to what they do best. The sooner they can exit the console space the happier they will be.
Personally, my preference would be to buy everything from GoG...but I, unfortunately, can’t be THAT hardcore about it. I HATE “walled gardens” and avoid them when I can...Steam is the one exception, and that’s mainly because HL2 sucked me into it WAAAAY back in the day. I have done pretty damn well avoiding EVERY EA…
All I’m saying is that if consoles end up requiring upgrades every couple years... they’ve entirely lost their appeal vs pc gaming!
not on PC, on *Windows 10*
Didn’t you hear them?!? It’s got FLOPS, man. FLOPS. Think about that.
Meh. This semi-new-console concept is making me yawn and want to go back to PC gaming full-time.
