I don’t see what’s so special about his reasoning, it’s the same old tired “the best person got the job” excuse which Hollywood uses since the dawn of time to explain why ethnic characters are being portrait by white actors (for some reason the best person for a job always happens to be white).
Don’t get me wrong I

Yeah, but none of those white actors are losing out on work BECAUSE they are white. No sane person has ever said, “gosh, there sure are a lack of roles for white people in Hollywood.”

Looks like the GamerGaters are out again.

Cue all the grey-texts rushing to defend....actually, I’m not quite sure who or what they are defending. ND isn’t being attacked, so much as questioned. Laura Bailey certainly isn’t being attacked. But I posted of a similar mindset to Patricia, and sure enough. I get told off by a number of unapproved commentors and

Except black people are real, whereas hobbits are not.

But good show on that false equivalence fallacy. May your ENG 101 instructor have more patience with you than I would. ;)

Thanks for writing this up, Nathan. I tweeted to Kotaku about it though I’m not sure if that tweet brought it to your attention or not. I feel a lot like you do. I’m uncomfortable with the decision. Druckmann was aware of the controversy that was going to surround his choice. So why bother going that direction anyway?

I think blackface is an incredibly apt example. This isn’t blackface, but that’s a very real context that actors and casters need to face, especially when you’re casting inter-racially.

I think Laura is insanely talented. My critique of ND’s decision has nothing to do with Laura’s performance.

Great repsonse. Which is why I think Druckmann’s response is somewhat bullshit.

Don’t think anyone here ever denied that. P was just saying she wished more black actors got opportunities in an industry where they are underrepresented, which really, isn’t that negative of a thing to wish for.

I get what Druckmann is saying, and I think his intentions here are good. It’s rad that games can allow people to transcend their appearances. But there’s still context to keep in mind. There are still black actresses and actors not getting recognized for their work—or not getting work at all. Not being able to see

You’re just saying, but most of those actors/actresses played individuals who at least looked like them—who shared their cultural, ethnic, and national histories.

It’s easy to imagine what -you- would be like as a future soldier, because you already know who you are. While persons of other races/creeds/gender

Not at all like that; Gollum is a fictional character, based upon a fictional race inhabiting a fictional world.

The character in question is based upon a real-world racial/ethnic identity, and the story is set in what could easily be argued as a real-world setting.

False equivalence is false. Please try again when you

I’m actually all for equal representation and consideration in fields of employment—which is why I’m so conflicted about my view on subjects like this.

Voice actors are nothing more than the voice behind a character. King Trode’s VA was not, after all, a stunted goblin—nor was the VA for Shepard representative of all

Entitled? Are you smokin rocks?

They are wanting what Xbox One is doing. People can pop in their old discs, download some files, and then be able to play. For Digital 360 games, those will automatically work. Granted, they have to be on the list of available backwards compatibility, and the onus is all on the developers to enable backwards

Considering you could buy a physical copy right now for about $5, I don’t think it’s too ridiculous to think that a digital re-release of a decade old game would be under 10

They spent thousands of hours making the game 10 years ago. And were compensated for their time then.

wait what? Are you saying it took them thousands of hours for the emulated port? Because I already bought most of those games once. So they have my money, and then some.

Except your DVDs of those same films work in the blu-ray player.
