Why "shouldn't" you wear a fancy gown to the supermarket? Wearing cut-offs to a gala is disrespectful, as often venues will have a dress code or your host will designate that it's black/white tie. But the supermarket? If that's what makes you happy, then go fucking do it. You're not hurting anyone.

People should be able to wear what they want to wear. What is wrong with someone wearing a big fancy dress if that's what makes them happy? Who are you to tell them that they should be replacing it with a long skirt and button down?
