That's pretty much how I function, though I usually give cash - If I know i'm going out with a bunch of people I make sure to get cash beforehand.

Don't you get a fine for that? With my bank, etransfers cost $4. I like doing the "one friend pays card, other people give them cash" thing though, that's always easy.

Except that if I'm the one paying, it takes 5 business days to get to my account, so, nah.

Venmo also accomplishes this quite well.
