I am not a fan of that DPAD redesign. I suppose it depends on how it feels in action but at first glance I am not excited about it. I liked the cross dpad that the Xbox One uses.  I thought they used player feedback to move away from that round DPAD but I guess not.

Well you either need to have a custom firmware on your DS or you need to get a flashcart like an R4i Gold 3DS or whatever. Then you need to find the rom file with the patch. It’s not too tough if you just do a google search.

I am not sure of the status of your 3DS and this may not pertain to you but just throwing it out there that there are hacks that allow you to use the DPAD with Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass. They really change how the game plays for people who were bothered by the stylus movement.
