The Windows analogy is flawed because Windows is just software. MS didn’t create the hardware that runs Windows and PC’s are not closed systems. Apple products, on the other hand, are closed systems with proprietary hardware and software designed by Apple. When you buy an Apple product, you’re consciously buying into

Yeah, I never liked Epic before, and this only solidifies it.

Yep, totally agree.

His arguments are weak as hell. He wants to put Fortnite and EGS on both iOS and the App Store while giving Apple nothing. Yet he apparently doesn’t have that same expectation of consoles, even though both Apple’s products and consoles are closed systems. He could at least be consistent with his stupidity.

The problem is selective placement of your lens.

Except I’m not arguing for restricting choice for everyone. That’s the fundamental problem with how people are arguing about this. The iPhone is not a market. It is simply one part of a market.

“Listen I get it, Apple sucks, their fees are exorbitant, and they’re anti-competition. I’m on your side. Stick it to ‘em.”

arguments like this: “taken their 30% payment processing fees and passed the cost along to our customers” are bad arguments. You don’t “pass” fees along, the customer decides the price they pay. Aka they buy it or they don’t, games aren’t a necessity. Epic wants a piece of that 30% and they’re trying to make it out

I just don’t consider that a valid complaint, because it’s fundamental to the product.

It's why arguing we have to buy games to "support the devs" is, and always has been, bullshit.

“sUpPoRt ThE dEvS!"

The issue is that you keep asserting that the “point” of Epic’s strategy is to reduce the industry standard cut. That is demonstrably false. Epic’s point is to become the dominant digital distribution platform. They also want to increase Unreal Engine licensing (which is why they offer a larger cut on EGS to games

Paying for timed exclusivity isn’t healthy competition at all. Healthy competition benefits customers by given them more choices. Timed exclusivity exists only to remove choice and force customers to use a specific platform instead of their preferred platform. When a game is available on Steam, GOG and EGS, that’s

Someone learned how to copy and paste today.

You are not an intelligent person and nobody values what you say.

I think there might be a few comments you haven’t posted this on, should probably get on that.

Is Epic’s point that people should switch to the clearly rushed and incomplete Epic Launcher that still forces you to buy things one at a time?

EGS has yet to make any profit so I’m not sure how sane their tactics really are. They’ve lost millions on the timed exclusives, weekly giveaways and $10 coupons. Sure, these things helped establish an install base. However, as Uplay and Origin have proven, establishing an install base doesn’t necessarily translate

They also have been securing PC exclusives to prove a point.

I do not want the end of walled gardens. The amount of malware filled fortnite scams when Epic were trying to distribute Fortnite outside of the Google Play store, the increase in cheaters, the just, general level of nonsense that would happen, crippling a pretty damn secure platform.
