First world, third world, what’s the difference when you’ve got... A Link Between Worlds.
First world, third world, what’s the difference when you’ve got... A Link Between Worlds.
What a stupid, divisive article this is. Ethan should not be writing anymore if his aim is to push out this drivel. Leave the site and put a better, more informed, female writer in his place.
That’s a fair question, but from what we know, it seems to be due to seniority, aptitude, and qualifications. If there is any more to that, none of us can say without more intimate knowledge. When we have that knowledge, we can then properly judge the situation.
We don’t know if any have. That would be purely speculation.
Got any sources to back that up or you’re just pulling that out of your ass? Everyone experiences that kind of thing, it’s not a women only issue. Sometimes it’s just not your time for a promotion.
I’ve worked in the industry for a few years now and I’ve met very few women on the programming/design side of things. It wasn’t because of men keeping all the poor women down, it was because we got one female applicant for every 10 guys. On the other hand HR, concept art and marketing was mostly filled with women. I…
Actually breaking down the data would destroy the argument. There is always the game studio that pays everyone the same salary if you are not happy.
Your reasoned and insightful response is sure to be wasted, unfortunately.
It’s a problem when women are not receiving equal pay for equal work. Likewise, it’s a problem when women are being denied access to higher paying positions on the basis of sex, either intentionally or unintentionally/negligently due to stronger intra-office relationships between male superiors and their subordinates…
Yeah the lack of detail in the reporting is really disconcerting and undermines the meaningfulness of the data. The discussion of gender pay gap is predominantly used to discuss women being paid less for the same work, so using it in an article where that isn’t the discussion at hand is very misleading for people who…
While I agree with this reporting “pay gap” is such a bad name for it when it’s examining the spread of gender within a company and not pay at each level.
So I don’t want to suggest that there is no sexism going on here, but the games industry has been historically overwhelmingly male, and is becoming less so. That means proportionately more women in entry level jobs.
Also, most likely, there are proportionately few women in (high-paid) engineering roles, and…
Maybe they don’t have the expertise, tenure or desire to be in those positions....or a laundry list of other reasons that aren’t sexism.
Probably its because there is not a big pool of women capable to lead one of the biggest franchises in gaming. THE BEST PERSON SHOULD BE HIRED FOR THESE TYPES OF GAMES.
Maybe because the male employees were originally hired during a time when there was significantly less interest from women in the games industry? Probably a solid hypothesis.
Ever since that piece on NPR where they played clips from the soundtrack I’ve fallen in love with the “pop” version of We Will Rise Again and its singer Meredith Godreau. Ignoring the lyrics, it’s just a beautiful song. As MacLeod noted (and Romer says in the NPR interview) the lyrics themselves aren’t explicitly…
He’s also 30 years old ffs, why does it always come down to race? He’s been out of high school for what, 12 years? Even when there’s nothing to do with white people in the article, you still find away to be angry at white people.
I would probably respond to this article, Drew, but I need to check with George Soros on what liberal talking points and affirmations I need for this subject. As a paid protester and actor hired by Open Society Foundations, I want to properly represent my opinion that aligns with His (Soros) views.
Of course you had to go there.
