Don thinks the office misses Megan because he misses Megan. His ego is big enough that he assumes that his feelings represent the groups. I don't think it's particularly unrealistic that Don would feel that way. It's pretty clear that he loves Megan and enjoyed having her at the office.

I like Joan, but she really had to work her way off my shit list for the way she treated Peggy and many of the other secretaries in the early seasons. She really can be quite nasty to them, but at the same time she shows all the sympathy in the world to these awful men. But I do think the show has been better at

What's with all the women having a tantrum and throwing shit this episode? I understand why Megan and Joan were mad, but I've never been THAT mad.

Probably close to 50 grand. I'm not sure how he could have passed a whole years worth of salary off as a bonus to himself.

Good points. It makes sense that people might be unsettled by Megan because other characters fit comfortably into certain tropes while she seems to subvert them. I'm curious about what the Megan haters actually want. Do they want Don to go back to Betty and womanizing? To be single and miserable again? Do they

I've probably said this on every Mad Men thread, but yeah, I really like Megan. I think she's the kind of woman I'd probably look up to if I knew her in real life. I like Joan, but she sometimes comes off as cold and brusque towards the other women. I love Peggy but she's so insecure sometimes I just want to shake

Aside from the other 80s and 90s sitcoms listed, don't forget Family Matters and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air! Man, EVERYBODY I knew watched one or both of those shows.

The Due Process Clause of the Constitution says that you are not allowed to deprive people of their fundamental rights. Marriage is a fundamental right, but these states define the right to marry as the right to marry someone of the opposite sex. They say that this is how our founders understood the definition of

That's why I brought in the car analogy. One way to protect yourself is never to drive. But even though driving can be very risky, for some reason people don't look down their noses at others for deciding it's worth the risk to get behind the wheel. People don't talk about how we're all driving too much. Instead,

Of course people can choose not to have sex. But why should they, as long as they are having safe sex? Having a lot of sex is not inherently risky behavior.

I think people should take more measures to protect themselves when having sex. I think society should work on measures to make sex safer. I just don't agree with your statement that "people seem to have way the hell too much sex." That's pretty much the main thing I was responding to. I don't really have a

People should use condoms too, of course. I'm just saying it makes more sense for the focus to be: make sex safer, rather than: have less sex. I think the first message will be more successful.

If treatments like this work, then maybe someday promiscuous sex will no longer be a risky behavior. Again, safe sex education is obviously important, but when I read news like this, it makes me think that the most promising solution to reducing the spread of HIV is to develop treatments that reduce the risks

Nobody is all up in arms. The article is about a pill that will help prevent the transmission of HIV. Educating people about safe sex is important, but if we can work on treatments that will make sex less risky, why not focus on that as well?

In this analogy, that's what this pill is. A tool to make sex safer, just like a seatbelt makes driving safer.

You could say that if you don't want to die in a car crash, don't ever get behind the wheel. Or, you could make safer cars and better traffic laws. Which one sounds more reasonable.

Had my white mother consulted my black grandmother or aunt, I think they would have been at a loss too. My hair was nothing like theirs either. Luckily, I think my mom actually did a decent job on her own - I'm not sure how she figured it out in the days before internet.

Not giving a shit about superheros seems like the better reason to me.

I believe it is a majority of Evangelical Christians that do these things, but not a majority of Christians as a whole. By a rather large margin, the majority of Catholics and mainline Christians/Protestants support same sex marriage in this country.

Hey hey hey, this is going to be me this Saturday. I got tickets for the Caps-Rangers game for my husband for his birthday. Woohoo!
