People always bring this mod in, but always fail to mention why there only posting screenshot of it. The thing is unplayable on almost every computer. It's practically playing GTA: Power point edition.

Here is a shocking fact for you- there are women who like video games! And they sometimes would like video games that let you choose a character let you pick a lady once in awhile! And the fact that this is exceedly rare, for a woman to be even an option in a video game avatar, is very much a problem to ladies. And,

Except that you're painting with a broad brush, painting everyone who -dares- criticize a game based on how it represents certain groups as shrill, book-burning, man-hating zealots.

And do you think that analogy is at all applicable to what's going on here? Can you cite examples of that actually happening within the gaming industry (and not including outside Jack Thompson types?)

"Since everyone knows what they are based on their actions"

Not really, especially since people making your arguments tend to interpret any criticism as "demands".

Sure you are. You just use labels like "social justice warriors" or "people with an agenda".

So wait. So developers can make whatever they want (which I generally agree with) AND they should be immune from criticism?

I don't care about things simply because of my gender, nor do I presume to know what someone who is not my gender thinks of a game. I think everyone and anyone is entitled to express their opinion and I hope you don't feel that I am not entitled to express my views about women in GTA V just because you think men

Wow. You've already shown you don't know what feminism is, and now you drop "cultural Marxism"?

The sad part is this has been being discussed on Twitter (and elsewhere) and the arguments against a female playable character have been ludicrous, but still get repeated even after they've been pointed out as ludicrous.

I see "but we make fun of everyone!" tossed around a lot as an excuse, but that ignores the broader social context in which the parody is being presented.

There's an old Anatole France quote that's relevant:
"In its majestic equality, the law forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, beg in the streets and

So we're not supposed to think critically about one of the year's biggest games because it's supposed to be dumb? That seems very silly to me.

At the end of the day, I'd love to step into the shoes of a female protagonist. Whether they do it or not is their choice. I won't necessarily complain about the lack of a female protagonist...

Great essay. I find that another source of major frustration I have with this topic (though, GTA V is quite great) is that Rockstar has already shown themselves capable of writing a strong, and still human, female:

The takeaway from this article is that no one in Steubenville learned anything at all about the incident and can't be bothered to feel remorse about it.

So it's the responsibility of women to stop men from acting like fucking assholes? Preventing men from breaking the law should be entirely up to the ladies?

Acceptable like "irregardless" is now acceptable, or really acceptable?

amok.
