If the union tried to play hardball the owners could honestly claim, for the first time in sports labor dispute history, that they were losing money and weren't willing to lose anymore. The populace in general would be completely indifferent.

Yeah, when are American billionaires going to step up and pay women millions of dollars to play a sport no one wants to watch them play?
