You see it as victim blaming because that's what you want to see.

You're putting words in my mouth. At no point have I ever said nor believed that dressing provocatively makes you susceptible to attack.

I could not agree with you more. Well said.

This is also a test.

This is a test.

"And I'm saying that jumping into a post about how a woman isn't responsible for the crime against her and saying "the only person on earth who is responsible for your safety is you," is both wrong and stupid "

My point is to manage your expectations when it comes to the police. Ever heard the expression, "When seconds count, the police are minutes away"? Well it's true.

It was a pretty shitty analogy.

"women take care of themselves all the time!"

Fuck you for putting words in my mouth. This has nothing to do with how women dress or act around guys. It's about taking precautions that could save your own life.

What I'm saying is that everyone, regardless of their gender, has a responsibility for their own safety. Yes, women AND men. It is up to you whether you want to take precautions or not, after all you are the person most affected by these actions. Will being prepared always save you from harm? No. But it gives you a

People who carry guns often do so because they are already at an elevated risk of being harmed, thus inflating that statistic.

Imagine I'm walking outside in a thunderstorm and I get struck by lightening. Is it my fault there was a lighting storm and I got hit? Nope, you can blame God on that one if it makes you feel better. Could I have benefited from not going outside in the first place? Yes.

Reckless? No, absolutely not. But one could be in a position of needing to take better precautions while not being reckless.

You're right, it doesn't solve the basic problem. But that doesn't mean that any attempts to help protect oneself are wasted effort. You'll never be able to fully solve the problem of rapists and murderers existing. Through police efforts we can definitely reduce the number of dangerous people who walk the streets,

I have not been ignoring your responses. You offer valid arguments, and I do agree with you to a large degree about what must be done to improve police response to these situations.

Sorry if I came off like I'm condoning the police's actions. I'm not. They definitely have blame in this issue and should change their practices to help protect women calling in threats better.

So what would you suggest you do? You don't offer any actions to actually help women. At least I've stated that women have the agency to protect themselves. I'll be damned if taking matters into your own hands is not what feminist empowerment is all about.

You're right, it is their job and they could do it a lot better. But no matter how good the police come, they will never be able to prevent every crime, every murder, and every rape. We have to make do with what we can.

Friends give rides, and can walk you home. A group of people is a bad target for criminals. If it's legal, it would also be wise to carry a taser, pepper spray, or even more lethal options.
