Oh, I'm the one on a high horse all of a sudden. Banning the use of bicycles on the roads? Why not ban walking on sidewalks then? After all, the bikes will be there since they can't be on the road any more.

You raise a few good points. There's no excuse for the idiots that ride just outside the bike lane, or for the morons who like to ride during rush hour. But the vast majority of cyclists are neither of these people. Some people hate cyclists just for being on the same road as them.
