Usually a student who is getting a slight bump up is getting it to save them from failing a course. I am not in the business of handing out 90% to a kid just because I like them or feel sorry for them. In fact, I know many teachers who have been begged (by the kid or a parent) to bump up an A student because of a

As a teacher, I think that my personal bias actually helps students more often than it hurts them. I have occasionally bumped up a mark by a percentage point or two if the student is on the brink of failing, for example. However, I would never punish a kid through marks because of my personal feelings about them.

Sorry, but I do agree that today is not the day to talk about gun control. I read an article on this site a few days ago about the Trevon Martin murder/suicide and how we should focus on blaming the perpetrator and mourning the victims. I think the same applies here. I'm not saying we can't talk about gun control, but

Yeah, but there's something particularly horrific about a freak propeller accident. I honestly believe that was what made this story such big news.

Careful! Don't you remember the rules from when her story first came out? We aren't allowed to feel sorry for her because she is a thin, pretty model. No matter how horrific it is, we should NOT feel bad for her and instead feel guilty for not caring about when less attractive people... get... Oh, I can't even. Nice

Yeah, they lost me way back at the "eating chickens is as bad as THE HOLOCAUST" ad debacle. I think Lindy pegged it with the phrase "dickish bag of dicks".

Yesssssssssss!

My dumb but happy pup.

I'm Canadian, but I found myself very caught up in the 2008 election. And not just for entertainment value - I felt emotionally invested in an Obama victory. I remember skipping my night class to sit in an Obama t-shirt and watch the numbers roll in. When it was finally over, I was sobbing. I honestly believed I was

Hey, that's cool. You can't do it until you decide you are ready. Trust me. Lots of people will say negative/condescending/scary things to try and make you do it, but that doesn't work. If you want to quit, you will - regardless of the self-righteousness of others.

I'm going as Cruella De Vil. I have a faux fur coat, black dress, red shoes and red gloves. All I had to buy was some cheap black hairspray colour. I also borrowed a plush dalmation toy from a friend.

I appreciate reading Tracy's perspective on this. I don't have kids yet, however, I don't get why people always get so upset when the perspective of mothers is voiced on this site. She's writing from her own experience. She's not slamming non-parents or saying they can't feel sad when bad things happen to children.

I thought he was such a nerd on that show! I'm honestly still shocked every time I see a picture of him now. How did he get so hot? If someone had said during Breaker High, "Yeah, that guy is going to be the hottest hollywood actor in a decade", I would've laughed my ass off.

I'm so sorry. I recently went through a miscarriage scare and I was shocked to see how routine and non-dramatic the whole thing was for the doctors and nurses. Just because "lots of women have them" doesn't make the experience any easier. Feel better.

Thank you. I really appreciate your sentiment and I apologize for sounding harsh. I will admit that there are some bad teachers out there. It's nice to have a dialogue about this without heads being ripped off and mean statements thrown around. I guess the point we are all trying to make is that the bullying has to

I agree with a lot of what you're saying, but how is putting the blame on teachers any different than blaming the Vancouver police? As a teacher, I can tell you that we often DON'T hear rumours about cyberbullying. And even if we did, we don't have a lot of power to investigate or even report it since teachers are

Just remember - an MFA is very different than a PhD or a regular MA. You may not even have to write a thesis (I didn't! MA in Theatre Studies.). You will probably be doing a lot of hands-on work, which is kind of the opposite of typical grad studies. I kind of hated my program, but I'm glad I did it. I make a lot more

This site also makes the same kind of errors about Canadian politics all the time. There was an article a few months back about "Canada reopening the abortion debate", which actually boils down to one moron putting forth a motion that would never ever be passed.

Ha ha ha ha ha! Oh my god. Of all the witty retorts to this piece of shit, yours is the best. I award you 50 cool points.

I may be wrong, but wasn't he the actor that also advised young, gay actors against coming out? If so, sounds like a whole lotta loathing going on.
