It’s inherently traumatic for someone to admit they were wrong about something, so people will go into denial and rationalization mode for a LONG time and rationalize things they would never rationalize otherwise rather than go through that trauma. It’s all psychology.
Why would you go by the president’s tweet at all? You believe him? Also, the article didn’t imply anything - it said that the directive came from the WH (which it clearly did), and then posted the President’s tweet denying that he gave the order.

Also, while food poisoning is no joke, spoilage in a few hours generally doesn’t cause food poisoning. And if it’s spoiled, then cooked, you’re golden. A lot of what people worry about is a non issue. The main issue is whether it was cooked appropriately *in the first place,* not that it was appropriately cooked…
