Oh totally agree. They were forced into offering a merger by the Japanese government, so I imagine Honda’s executives are breathing a huge sigh of relief and sipping a large glass of Japanese whiskey right about now.

I’m not entirely sure Honda benefits from this boat anchor. They were pressured into it by the Japanese government.

So many bad decisions to choose from it’s hard to pick the top one.

USAID also offers informal insights and intelligence into countries we aren’t typically friendly with. Same as with NGOs - you can learn a lot from just mingling with the locals, which often leads to useful intelligence.

Reportedly the CRJ asked for a VFR approach to a Runway 33 while they were on approach to Runway 01, so that might explain the turn. The chopper crew may have focused on the wrong aircraft and turned to avoid it, but placed themselves on a collision course with the CRJ.
