I feel I am obligated to mention here the fan theory that the Rebuild movies are actually sequels.

I’m a longtime fan, & this is my watch order for people who maybe aren’t so much into anime or have trouble getting into older animation styles:

I partly disagree. I think Eva 1.11 can be a good “taster” for someone to see if the TV show is something they want to watch since it pretty much the 1st few episodes exactly but with slicker animation.

The cicadas are to show that the world’s climate has been an endless, oppressive summer following the 2nd Impact.

It’s a 90s post-modern nostalgic rehash of giant robot shows from the 70s and 80s that uses the tropes and format of the same to tell a story of personal growth and healing in an unforgiving society.

He tried to seduce Chopper the droid in Rebels. Chopper seemed to go along with it, until Chopper double-crossed him.

I LOVED Lupin III, Part 5! It’s currently on Prime, & it has homages to all the different eras of Lupin, including an episode that mimics Miyazaki’s style perfectly.

Miss you and your movie FAQs, Rob! Happy Xmas!

Nobody ever talks about it, but the theatrical version of the 1st Harry Potter movie had a bunch of shadows over the face of the centaur guy to cover up the bad CGI. It was fixed for the home video release.

So we have yet another Utena reference in Steven Universe. Yes!

I just hope it’s better than last year’s extremely disappointing Junji Ito Collection.

When I do eventually go see this I'm going to pretend it's a secret remake of The Day the Clown Cried.

Prince is also a heavy influence on JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. The writer states that he his is favorite artist and listens to him as he draws.

Mari may be a pointless OP fanwank character / meta fuck you to whiny otaku but she continues to be an absolute treasure.

I think that’s the point of Mari. She’s the classic giant robo action hero; she’s everything the haters complained that Shinji isn’t. As a result, she has no depth.

That part in ep. 4 where the newspaper guy kicks the desk? He 4th-wall knocked the camera into Dutch angles!

Probably a mix of the two.

Wille is fighting Nerv for control of Paris in order to access spare Eva parts.

They are Nerv production Evas, but they violate a Vatican Treaty that forbids their application for military use.
